A designerly practice lexicon of key concepts, words and ideas

How the audio is made

The body of the exegesis is narrated by a synthetic voice produced with ElevenLabs, chosen by ear and kept the same from the first section to the last. The three interludes that open each Fit are read by Alisdair himself, over a light soundscape that sits well below the voice and can be muted.

What you hear is the exegesis, not a summary. Section headings are announced, figures are read by number and caption, and quotations are marked as quotations. Citations in parentheses are left out of the narration so the argument runs unbroken; the author's name stays where the sentence needs it, and every reference remains in the text and the bibliography.

The narration is aligned to the text sentence by sentence. That alignment is what lets the reader highlight the passage being spoken, lets listen mode show the right figure at the right moment, and lets you move between reading and listening without losing your place.
